Rose Square, commonly called The Bromptons, is a redevelopment of the original 1844 Brompton hospital. Formally a market garden, the site was redeveloped in 1997 into an exclusive private residence. We were delighted to be appointed as interior designer and interior architect of a duplex apartment in this magnificent property. Join us as we share the design of this elegant apartment.
The luxury interior design brief was to transform the existing apartment into an elegant secondary residence for our client. In addition to marrying the exquisite architectural detail of the building with the interior architecture, the apartment also needed to be brought up to date in terms of technology, whilst still incorporating the personality and style of our client to ensure a space that felt sophisticated yet comfortable and inviting. They desired a space that felt explicitly like a home away from home.
We spared no detail in the interior design of this luxurious yet comfortable duplex apartment in The Bromptons.
The design of the living room was approached with a sense of grandeur. It is the formal entertaining area as well as a space in which to relax. The silk and mohair patterned, hand-knotted rug forms the foundation of the room and is surrounded by blue-grey walls adorned with elaborately framed commissioned oils. The interior scheme is brought together with accents in the accessories and fresh floral arrangements. We designed all furniture and soft furnishings as bespoke in a palette of blues and golds, to accentuate a sense of luxury that emanates throughout the space.
The design of the reception room is more modest, where light grey armchairs and blue wallpaper are fresh and leisurely. The open plan reception room and dining area feature a large French window that forms a bright flow of space. A tiered, smoked glass chandelier is centred above the dining table, which was carefully designed to seat six to eight people. The neutral colour palette creates a serene space while contrasting textures add an element of sophistication and elegance.
The master bedroom is layered with soft blue silk walls and a silver faux silk carpet. The shaped headboard creates a contrast to the patterned bedspread and charcoal checked throw. Bespoke bedside tables have been designed using bird’s eye maple with fabric-clad drawers, while the walls feature artwork with silk mounts and hand-painted frames. It’s the perfect sanctuary in which to unwind and relax.
The interior design of the master bathroom is the epitome of chic.
For the master bathroom, we wanted our client to step into a space that felt like home but with a sense of being on holiday, where they could enjoy the ambience of a luxury spa. The colour scheme was inspired by the strong white light cast by the pitched glass roof, so a soft palette of greens and gold was chosen to create a sense of calm. Green complements the tones of the marble, while brass and gold fittings add an element of opulence. The choice of materials was all about luxury. The Arabescato Corchia marble of the vanity has unique markings that add depth to the scheme, while the paler veined Calacatta marble is perfect for achieving the symmetrical book-matched pattern on the floor. A relaxation area has been created in the alcove, where coloured fibre optics are embedded in the ceiling to enjoy when relaxing on the chaise lounge or daybed that fits neatly into the space.
The design is brought together harmoniously by several features connected to the architectural detail of both the interior and exterior of the property. These include the rich colour palette of blues and gold contrasted by light wood to create a sense of glamour. The palette has been carefully chosen to form a backdrop to the use of rich materials like marble, brass and bronze. The layers of light provide an ambient backdrop in each room, which beautifully highlight the materials and finishes to stunning effect.
